Carey Young

Consideration
2004-5
Paula Cooper Gallery, New York

"Consideration, Carey Young's solo show, featured a series of legally-enforceable contracts between artist and viewer.  Created in conjunction with a legal team, the text, video, and performative works entice the viewer into agreements that explore notions of individual autonomy, freedom of speech and the social contract.  Engaging participants in a series of contractual relationships, young dissects the viewer's experience of the exhibitions, from accepting the exhibition invitation, to entering and moving around the exhibition space."

Robert Smithson

One of Andy Goldsworthy's influences:

Broken Circle
Emmen, Holland
Summer 1971
green water, white and yellow sand flats
diameter 140'
canal apx 12' wide
depth quarry late 10-15'

He works in a lot of different mediums.  His drawings/collages are probably my favorite:

Untitled (Tear)
1961-63
gouache, photograph, crayon
24 x 26 1/2"

Map Fragment
1967
6"x6"

He also does Sculpture, Film, Photography, and has a collection of essays.  What's really interesting about his sculpture is how geometric it is, while his other work is very nature-based.  I love finding pre-cursors to my favorite artists.

And then I had a blog...

Here I am.. spreading my technological seed. So ideally this would be a place to post my work, seeing as I am a photographer, however, I am now at home, and I never got the time to scan all my negatives while I was at Hampshire. I have a little bit to share, and I'm taking a digital photography class in France this summer so there will be more to come. But until then I am going to be using this as a pseudo-journal as well as a way to archive of artists I find on the internet.
cheers.
